Veggie Galaxy reminds me of Champs Diner in Brooklyn, New York, but with a space theme. Veggie Galaxy has all of the decor of a retro diner, from the bar stools to the booths. Their main goal is to serve the vegetarian versions of your favorite traditional diner comfort foods. But don’t think they forgot about their vegan friends, because everything on their menu can also be made vegan! Veggie Galaxy is open 7 days a week, they serve breakfast all day, they have an extensive menu and they offer vegan doughnuts on the weekends. Sounds too good to be true? Well luckily it’s not!
I went to Veggie Galaxy for breakfast, and it was surprisingly crowded despite the fact that they only opened about two hours before I arrived. As I waited to be seated I noticed that there’s four type of seating available: at the counter, around a table, at a booth, or at a high booth. I secretly hoped to be seated in a booth, but they were all taken, so I got to sit in the high booths. These booths are located right in the middle of the restaurant and are elevated above everything else in the restaurant. So you got regular booths to my left and the counter/bar to my right, and then there’s me, sitting high in the middle of the restaurant. At first I felt a bit awkward being elevated, but then I embraced it 💁🏽♀️.
I ordered waffles topped with coconut whipped cream, caramelized banana butter and powdered sugar, and a side order of seitan sausages and tofu scrambled eggs. The service at Veggie Galaxy was very fast, and I did not have to wait too long for my food to arrive. This was my first time having tofu eggs, so I dived into that first. For those who’ve never had tofu eggs either, you should know they taste nothing like eggs. And if you’re anything like me, this will make you happy, because I have grown to despise the taste and smell of eggs. The tofu was light and paired well with the waffles. They didn’t have a distinct taste, so it did not clash with anything on my plate. In terms of the waffles, I found myself removing the caramelized banana butter because it was a bit too sweet for me when eaten with the whipped cream and maple syrup. Lastly, the sausages tasted a lot like Italian sausages, which was not the flavor I was expecting or wanted with my breakfast. I tried covering them in maple syrup but that didn’t help to diminish their strong flavor.
Milkshakes have become my favorite vegan treat/dessert, so if I’m at a restaurant and they have milkshakes, best believe I’m ordering! And if they have coffee milkshake, I might order a large or order two.
The milkshake at Veggie Galaxy was so thick and creamy and delicious. The milkshake was so thick that they gave me a spoon along with a straw to enjoy the shake to the fullest. I also received an extra cup of milkshake to refill as I go.
Veggie Galaxy has an extensive menu, they serve breakfast (all day), lunch, dinner, desserts, and they cater to vegans and vegetarians a like. If you come here with your friends, regardless of whether they are meat eaters or not, I guarantee you can all find something that you like on the menu. Veggie Galaxy is also open pretty late in comparison to other vegan and vegetarian spots in that neighborhood.
