FoMu- Jamaican Plain
It can be difficult to find somewhere that offers vegan desserts, much less great tasting vegan desserts. FoMu is working on filling that void in Boston. FoMu has four Boston locations and I visited their Jamaica Plain location earlier this year. FoMu is a vegan ice cream shop that not only serves vegan ice cream, but they also offer vegan cookies, brownies, cakes and more baked goods. They make all of their products from scratch using local ingredients that are natural, kosher and plant-based. Not only does the quality of their ingredients set FoMu a part from the rest, but also the way their products are made. FoMu’s products only contain about 25% air, in comparison to the typical 50% of air contained in most ice creams. This simply means that there is more ingredients in each bite. By using less air, FoMu creates a smooth and creamy product each time.
FoMu offers a lot of the classic ice cream flavors, such as chocolate cookie dough, chocolate pudding, and vanilla bean. They also have ones that I have never seen anywhere else, such as bourbon maple walnut. I tried three of their classic flavors and fell in love with the quality and richness of their ice cream. The f’oreo flavor was sweet and contained soft crumbles of Oreo cookies mixed in with vanilla ice cream. The vanilla bean and chocolate pudding flavors were both perfect. For two simple and plain flavors, there was nothing simple or plain about the way they tasted. That is the mark of quality ice cream!
If you’re not in the Boston area, don’t worry, you can still enjoy the treats at FoMu. They currently ship to the lower 48 United States and the District of Columbia using FedEx. All of their frozen goods are packed in an eco-friendly insulated shipping box that contains enough dry ice to keep the contents frozen until you receive it. So go and live your best life and treat yourself to some delicious ice cream or vegan baked goods.
