Vegandale New York 2019
I’m back at the Vegandale Festival in New York for another year! Do you remember when I said in my previous article that I would recommend you get to the Vegandale Festival as early as possible to avoid lines? Well, I didn’t follow my own advice this year, and I actually ended up arriving around 3 p.m. When I realized what time I arrived and how crowded the field was in comparison to last year, I thought my chances of trying some good food were slim. Luckily, some of the lines were pretty short, and the ones that were long didn’t have a ridiculous wait time. I was able to try a wide variety of vegan food and treats, and I even had time to relax by the water and enjoy my food.
First up was Stuffed Ice Cream, which is an ice cream shop right here in New York City. They offer ice cream, ice cream stuffed donuts, and ice cream bouquets. Since I knew that I wanted to try as much food as I could at this festival, I decided to go with a single scoop of mango colada ice cream. A lot of flavor was packed into this single scoop treat. It tasted exactly like nights in Miami, sipping on a piña colada on Collins Ave (but without the alcohol).
You would think that after having ice cream I would want to switch up the pace and try some food. Well, you’re wrong! I went straight to The Cinnamon Snail food truck to grab more treats. The Cinnamon Snail is a vegan food truck, also in New York City, that offers sandwiches, burgers, and a wide variety of pastries. I ordered the s’mores donut, a cinnamon roll, and the earl grey chocolate donut. Everything was absolutely delicious, however, the s’mores donut was the winner. The donut was soft and had a chocolate center that was topped with four roasted marshmallows. The combination resulted in the donut melting in your mouth with each bite. Despite how sweet their pastries may look, they were actually not overbearing.
Crazy Jack Vegan is a restaurant based out of Florida that offers corn dogs, croquettes, yucca fries, and more. After falling in love with croquettes during my trip to Philadelphia a few months ago, I ordered their jackfruit croquettes to see if the love was still there. The jackfruit croquettes were utterly satisfying and well seasoned. I received them straight out of the fryer so they were fresh, hot, and easy to break apart. I flew through those croquettes like nobodies business and I wanted to order more. However, I wasn’t done exploring Vegandale just yet. I needed to leave room in my stomach for more food, so I had to stay focused. Once I was done exploring though, I definitely went back to Crazy Jack Vegan for seconds.
The last stop was WontonTiva. This restaurant is based out of Brooklyn and they offer Hawaiian handmade wontons and Hawaiian desserts. I tried the Papu’s Tofu & Veggie wonton with hot soy mustard sauce. The sauce paired with the wontons made the dish a bit salty, but the wontons by themselves were tasty and light. It was the perfect light meal to end my food adventure at the Vegandale Festival. Hopefully you’ll catch me at a Vegandale Festival in a state other than New York next year!
