Urban Vegan Kitchen stole my heart from the moment I walked in. There's graffiti on the walls and cool art hanging every where. Honestly, any restaurant that offers delicious vegan comfort food will automatically become one of my favorite restaurants. Because hello! This girl loves to eat.
The shrimp po' boy was soooo good. Each bite consisted of mouth watering popcorn fried seitan, shredded lettuce, tomato, and house-made remoulade, all stuffed in between toasted french bread. As I'm writing this, my stomach is yearning for another piece of that sandwich.
If you're not careful while eating the po’ boy it can get a little messy. A wrong bite could turn into a leaky mess of remoulade dripping down the sides of your hands. Eating the sandwich turns into careful maneuvering, turning the sandwich after each bite to keep things even and prevent it from falling apart.
This was my first time eating chili cheese fries and I'm glad I had them at Urban Vegan Kitchen. I'm also glad that I had them with vegan cheese, otherwise, bubble guts. The mac n' cheese was also pretty good, especially when paired with the shiitake bacon. It does not share the taste of traditional mac n’ cheese due to the fact that it is topped with smoked paprika, herbed bread crumbs, and scallions. Nonetheless, it was a tasty appetizer.
Despite the size of the breakfast sandwich, it was surprisingly filling. BUT I honestly wish I got two sandwiches with the order instead of one, because one just didn’t feel like enough. I was about 85% full and just needed one more to feel complete. Now, the star of the day were the buffalo wings. Usually I don't enjoy buffalo wings because the sauce tends to be a bit overbearing to me, but Urban Vegan Kitchen got it right! Bare in mind, my boyfriend is the one that ordered the buffalo wings and I was doing that thing where you eat what your boyfriend ordered even though you said you didn't want any when you were ordering.
So technically I was only supposed to have a few bites, but I think it's safe to say that I ate more than half of those wings. It was just that good!
Urban Vegan Kitchen offers brunch everyday, from opening until 4 P.M. This is also a great restaurant to grab late night food while in NYC because they are open until midnight on most days. One thing I’m dying to try the next time I visit Urban Vegan Kitchen is their desserts. Because what vegan doesn’t love a good dessert? I have a strong feeling that this restaurant will become one of those restaurants that I go to almost every weekend.
