Blaze Pizza

Immediately after checking into the hotel I was in the mood for some food. So I decided to head to the closest restaurant on my list, which was Blaze Pizza. This pizzeria had non-vegan, vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. You have the option of ordering either a whole or half pie off the menu or build your own pie. In true Cavell fashion, I built my own. Seeing that this was my first time at Blaze Pizza, I played it safe and went with a half pie. Just in case it was trash.

The toppings I chose were spicy red sauce, jalapenos, red onions, pineapples, vegan cheese, spicy vegan chorizo, green peppers, sea salt and oregano. All of this was layered on a thin dough and placed in an oven to roast. While waiting for the pizza I noticed that there was a large amount of indoor seating available and there was also ample sidewalk tables outside. The outdoor tables are partially covered to protect you from the NOLA sun.

Now it was time for the verdict…

As I took my first bite into the pizza there was an immediate explosion of flavors. The green peppers and red onions crunched with each bite, the vegan cheese melted in my mouth, the pineapples released a burst of sweet and tangy deliciousness with each bite, the spicy red sauce and jalapenos set my mouth ablaze (pun intended), but then it was comforted by the soft, thin crust of the pizza. I’ve never had a more perfect pizza in my life!

Blaze Pizza was so good that I visited them THREE more times. The second time around I ordered a whole pie and I decided to put a BBQ sauce drizzle on top to finish it off. And just when I thought their pizza couldn’t get any better, it did!

Blaze Pizza was the perfect way to start off my food adventure in New Orleans. Blaze Pizza is an unpretentious counter-serve pizza spot that offers something for all diets. They provide fairly priced thin-crust pies and great customer service in the heart of New Orleans’ Central Business District. It’s a must visit!
